Take technical ownership across the fleet
HØJ Nordic Marine Contractor has delivered marine construction projects since 1958 and today works across Northern Europe within dredging, offshore wind, coastal protection and maritime infrastructure.
As the fleet grows, HØJ wants to bring more technical knowledge in-house. You will join the technical team in Horsens, where you will take specialist responsibility for the systems connecting dredging operations, positioning, survey equipment and onboard IT. While your colleagues cover other technical areas across the fleet, your primary focus will be the dredging systems and the related IT and survey technology.
Your main focus will be the 3D dredging systems across seven vessels, including Teledyne PDS, positioning equipment, sensors and the supporting IT setup. You will work closely with skippers, crews, project managers and suppliers and become the person they turn to when systems need to be set up, improved or brought back online.
Some days, you will work alongside your colleagues in the technical team in Horsens, planning and coordinating maintenance, configuring systems or supporting vessels remotely. Other days, you will be on board troubleshooting equipment, preparing a vessel for a new project or carrying out planned service and maintenance.
The aim is not only to solve problems when they occur, but to create a more consistent, well-documented and reliable setup across the fleet.
More specifically, you will:
- Take technical ownership of the fleet’s dredging systems and Teledyne PDS setup
- Work with positioning, sensors, multibeam and other survey equipment
- Support and improve onboard IT, networks and communication systems
- Plan preventive maintenance, calibrations and service
- Document the technical setup on each vessel and prepare relevant reports
- Support crews and project managers with troubleshooting and project preparation
One of your first tasks will be to map the existing system landscape across the vessels. You will also help commission the dredging system on a new vessel and establish clearer standards across the fleet.
Your integrity helps you understand how things really work
There is no single background that leads to this role.
You may be a hydrographic surveyor, electronics technician, automation or SCADA technician, commissioning engineer or something similar. Perhaps you come from dredging, offshore, marine survey or a supplier of marine technology.
What matters most is that you enjoy technical problem-solving and are comfortable moving between hardware, software and systems and come with a “can do, will do” attitude.
Experience with Teledyne PDS, RESON equipment, dredging systems, GNSS/RTK or multibeam is highly relevant. Knowledge of electronics, networks and technical troubleshooting will also serve you well. You do not need to tick every box, and your practical skills, curiosity and willingness to learn matter more than a specific degree or certificate.
You are proactive and structured and would rather prevent the next breakdown than wait for the phone to ring. You are also comfortable making practical decisions when something needs to work here and now.
Clear communication matters too. You will work closely with people on board and onshore and need to explain technical issues in a way that makes sense to others.
English is required, while Danish is preferred. German is an advantage.
Technical freedom with the vessels close by
At HØJ, you step into a specialist role with considerable freedom and responsibility from day one. You will be close to the vessels, the people using the equipment and the projects where your work makes a visible difference.
The company is family-owned, the decision-making paths are short, and the culture is characterized by technical pride, honesty, responsibility and a practical approach to solving problems.
The role is based in Horsens, where you will be part of the technical team and the day-to-day collaboration when you are not on board. For the right profile, there is flexibility for hybrid working.
You should expect to spend around a quarter of your time on board vessels working across Northern Europe. Much of the support can be handled remotely, while some troubleshooting, commissioning and maintenance requires being close to the equipment across the fleet.
As the fleet grows, there is also room to develop the area further, whether that means more systems, more survey activities or eventually more colleagues around the function.
Would you like to become the technical specialist that crews and project teams rely on across the fleet? We look forward to hearing from you.
